The FZG gear test rig is a test machine with a power circulation system (back-to-back configuration). The drive gearbox and the test gearbox are force-connected via two torsion shafts. Shaft 1 features a coupling for applying the load. The temperature in the test gearbox can be preset and controlled. The test rig is driven by an electric motor. With the speed-controlled test rig, speeds of 100–3,000 rpm can be achieved in both directions of rotation. The load can be applied either with a weight system, the clamping lever, or an automatic clamping system.
